Tanton Working Forest
To get to the Tanton Family Reserve from Petoskey, take Mitchell Road east approximately 7 miles. Turn south (right) onto Maxwell Road. Drive south just over ¼ mile and the new parking area is on the left (east) side of Maxwell Road.
The Tanton Forest Trails form a stacked loop along the slopes of Christmas Mountain. This project represents some of the first machine built 'flow' trails in the region. A beginner loop winds through the lower elevations of the property, while a blue trail offers a trip to ridgelines about half way up the mountain. A black diamond trail offers a trail to the summit of the mountain for those seeking the most the system has to offer.
“Working with Rock Solid from start to finish is like working with excellence. Their staff’s knowledge and experience of the terrain and finding just the right spot to place a trail is incredible. They don’t just build a trail, they bring the forest to life with what they find in the woods. A crooked tree that others would avoid, they make that a focal point. If the soil isn’t just right, they make it that way for trail sustainability. Working with the owner to the builder to the office staff was nothing but ease. They really know what they are doing and they really love what they do. That makes them the right choice always for building your trails.” Sarah Gurney, Little Traverse Conservancy
